Meet the Board
The Prospect Park South Association Board is elected by members of the community and serves entirely on a volunteer basis. We welcome your ideas and thoughts on how we can continue to improve the neighborhood.

President
Michael Scherz
I'm in my 17th year of living here in Prospect Park South. I love it here. I love living so close to the City - just a couple blocks from express trains - while also living in a beautiful neighborhood surrounded by trees and gardens. Whenever I turn the corner to enter the neighborhood, I get the same feeling of calm.
Funny, I remember this neighborhood from childhood. My grandparents lived in an apartment nearby. When we visited, I remember walking my dog near the houses and loving the area. Back then, I never dreamed I'd live in one of these houses with my own family.
I'm honored to be PPSA President and look forward to getting to know everyone in the neighborhood.
Neighborhood favorites: I love the Albemarle and Buckingham Malls. My favorite food (outside our kitchen) is Jiku (yummy Korean pancakes arrive so quickly), Suzy's Roti, and the farmer's market on Sundays.

Welcome and Member Engagement

Alongside my wife, Christina, and our two sons, I’m grateful to call Prospect Park South our home. After 25 years on the Upper West Side, we moved here in 2018, captivated by its beauty, close-knit community, and the ease of reaching both the city and the beach—with very few chain stores in sight. My connection to PPS began unexpectedly when I got lost biking from the UWS to Coney Island, imagining Prospect Park would be a perfect rectangle like Central Park. Since then, PPS has felt like a hidden gem with a welcoming spirit I’m proud to help foster. Serving on the board feels like the ideal way to give back to a place I only wish I’d discovered sooner.

Security and Public Safety Chair
Nathan Thompson
When we moved into Prospect Park South over 20 years ago, I got involved in security issues and joined the board as Security Chair. The security guard checks out with me each evening, and I do my best to play liaison to both the private security team as well as the NYPD. I began attending the 70th Precinct Community Council meetings over a decade ago. My participation in the PCC is meant to maintain a personal relationship between the people of the 70th and Prospect Park South residents in the context of the 168,000 person precinct. I also do magic and juggling show at community events throughout the year.

Gardening Chair
Donna DiDonato
I have lived in the neighborhood for almost a decade, my favorite time of year in PPS is the spring. I'm a gardener, and I attribute my green thumb to my grandfather who worked for the parks department. As gardening chair, I work with RD Bonilla, vendors, and PPSA members to identify and inventory the plantings in the common areas and research the best way to maintain our trees, shrubs, and plant’s. We also add bulbs, annuals, and perennials to add interest throughout the seasons. Did I mention that I hate the snow? When the snowfall hits 3 inches, I arrange for the removal on the sidewalks.
Neighborhood favorites: I love the brussel sprouts at Werkstatt on Coney Island Avenue, the croissants at Der Pioneer and enjoy a good yoga class at Jaya yoga.

When we first moved here in 1992, I was impressed by the number of ”old timers” – people who had lived here for 20, 30 or 40 years. Now I am one of them! Why would anyone want to live anywhere else? We have participated in almost all of the neighborhood events: the Progressive Dinner, Wine Tasting, “Know Your Neighbor” gathering, etc. because we wanted to feel part of the community. With the onset of covid, we have not had as many community events, but we are hoping to bring it back. I am a retired teacher/guidance counselor. My husband, who is also retired, worked for BNParibas, a French bank. Our daughter, Danielle, was raised in this house and now she is all grown up!

Communications Chair

I lived in Park Slope for almost a decade, then one day, I walked across the park because I had heard about this little farm to table restaurant, called The Farm on Adderley. I literally stumbled upon Prospect Park South and never left. When my friends ask me why I live here, it's not because of the greenery or the unique homes, although that's what drew me here, it's the wonderful neighbors. Whether we stop to chat while I walk the dogs, get together with neighbors for dinner, or need an extra set of hands, in Prospect Park South, I've found community in the city. I joined the board to maximize the community spirit!
Neighborhood favorites: I love the Mexican truck that parks on Church Ave, especially their nachos with chorizo. I also am an avid fan of Lark, and as a self-proclaimed croissant aficionado, I appreciate that their pain au chocolat comes with two sticks of chocolate.

Community Board 14 Liaison
Barden Prisant
He has lived here for over a decade. I love the diversity of the houses within PPS and the neighborhoods surrounding it, that's why I sit on the NYC Community Board 14 Brooklyn and act as a liaison for the PPSA board.
Neighborhood favorites: One of my favorite places to go in the area is the Church Fruit Farm at the corner of Church Avenue and 19th Street.

I have been walking our little pooch Dylan in this gem of a neighborhood for over 10 years, where there are lush and large grass sidewalks, majestic tall trees, and glorious blooms and flowers. My husband and I are lucky to call Prospect Park South our home now, as he lived in the area for over 20 years and used to take me out on dates (before I said “I Do”), leisurely strolling down the romantic blocks of unique, gorgeous Victorian homes. And there is the very convenience of the subway nearby to ride into Manhattan, seeing the best views of the Brooklyn Bridge, or to go to the beach and ride the Cyclone roller coaster at Coney Island. Being a born and raised New Yorker in our busy and dense city, Prospect Park South is truly a one-of-a-kind gem of a NYC neighborhood where one can smell the flowers, hear the birds chirping, witness all four seasons and their transformations, and have a lovely chat with a neighbor. You can feel a piece of NYC history in the charming architectural masterpieces, and all the love poured into the neighborhood by those who came before us in this magical place called Prospect Park South.
Neighborhood favorites: Cortelyou Road with all the diverse restaurants and bars, Sunday’s green market, and NYC's only true bar and flower shop, Sycamore….and of course, Operation Gig porch concerts and live music.
