Filming in
Prospect Park South
We're a small neighborhood, but Prospect Park South has a prominent history in Hollywood. From blockbusters to TV series to music videos and commercials, our neighborhood has been the backdrop for productions large and small.
History of Prospect Park South in cinema
Although we don't know the first movie filmed in Prospect Park South, the most famous is "Sophie's Choice." The "Pink Palace" that was used as the establishing shot for the boarding house still stands today, but it is no longer a rosy shade of pink.
What to know before you start filming?
Overall, our neighborhood is fairly production-friendly, but just like any community, not everyone is thrilled to see the trucks pull up the block. As an incentive to make filming beneficial for the entire neighborhood, we ask for a donation of $500 per shoot day to the Prospect Park South Association. This donation goes to the general maintenance of the community, including mowing the curb strip, landscaping the mall, and snow removal in the winter. Beyond the suggested donation, we ask that you communicate early and late shoot days to homeowners so they can let neighbors know, be respectful of property lines, and support local businesses, like Lark on Church Ave or kids' lemonade stands.
